Services We Provide
If you're carrying the weight of trauma, anxiety, grief, or a season of life that's heavier than you expected, you don't have to face it alone.
I'm Kate Massey, MA, LPC, a licensed Christian counselor based in Seneca, South Carolina. My practice, Finding Joy Counseling, offers in-person counseling for adults and teens (ages 14+) across the Upstate, including Seneca, Westminster, Walhalla, Salem, Clemson, Anderson, and the surrounding Oconee and Pickens County area.
I integrate evidence-based clinical methods (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, trauma-focused care, narrative therapy, and motivational interviewing) with Christian counseling for clients who want their faith to be part of the work.

Specialties
Trauma Counseling
Trauma rewires the nervous system. Healing isn't a matter of "getting over it." It's a slow, intentional process of helping the body, mind, and heart feel safe again. I use evidence-based trauma-focused methods (CBT, narrative therapy, STAR-certified techniques) alongside faith-rooted care for those who want it. I work with adults and teens recovering from bullying, abuse, family wounds, grief, and the kinds of pain that don't fit neat categories.
Christian Counseling
Christian counseling is talk therapy that integrates a biblical worldview with evidence-based clinical methods. Unlike biblical counseling, which often relies on scripture alone, I bring the full weight of my clinical training, woven with prayer and biblical truth when you want it. For clients who don't want faith integrated, I respect that, and the care is no less rooted in evidence-based methods.
Anxiety Counseling
Anxiety isn't a sign of weak faith. It's a brain and body response to perceived threat, and it responds to real treatment. We'll work on the physiological side (nervous system regulation, breathwork, cognitive reframing) and, when you want it, the spiritual side (scripture, prayer, reframing fear through faith).
Depression Counseling
Depression can feel like spiritual failure when it's actually a clinical reality. We work through both: the physiology, the thought patterns, and the spiritual undercurrent for those who want faith in the work.
Grief Counseling
Grief doesn't move in stages or on a timeline. It moves in waves. My role isn't to push you through them. It's to help you stay grounded enough to feel them, learn from them, and rebuild around the loss without erasing it.
Counseling for Teens (Ages 14+)
I work with adolescents 14 and up navigating anxiety, bullying, identity questions, family stress, and trauma. Teens get the same evidence-based care and the same option to integrate faith, meeting them where they are.
Life Transitions, Stress, and Self-Esteem
Adjustment disorders, mood disorders, coping skills, stress management, and self-esteem work are also part of my practice. If you don't see your specific concern listed, please reach out. I'd rather have a conversation than assume.

What Is Christian Counseling:
There are many different ways that the Christian faith can be brought into your treatment. If a client shared they are seeking Christian counseling, we work together to figure out what that means to them. This could include prayer, Scripture, and Christian resources, as well as learning how your faith can be a useful coping skills for the stressors you face in life. The basics for Christian counseling is counseling with a Christian worldview, values, and Biblical-based beliefs. We provide a caring, safe, non-judgmental environment for clients of all faiths or no faith.
